Non-aqueous secondary battery having a blended cathode active material

An electrochemically active material comprising a mixture or blend of two groups of particles, exhibits synergetic effect. The two groups of particles are compounds of formula LiHVOand compounds of formula LiM-POwherein M is one or more transition metals, comprising at least one metal which is capable of undergoing oxidation to a higher valence state. In order to obtain a synergistic effect, the particles of formula (I) and the particles of formule (II) are present in amounts of 5 :95 % by weight to 95 : 5 % by weight.
