With the present invention, an electronic device, which detects the type of power source, and operation method for said electronic device is provided. Said device comprises power input (1), which can be connected to either a DC adapter or a DC power source; main board (2), which is powered from power input (1); filtering means (3), which filters the voltage fed through said power input (1); and detection means (4), which detects the high frequency components of the filtered voltage. Said method comprises the steps of powering electronic device (101); filtering input voltage (102); analysing filtered voltage (103); checking high frequency components of analysed voltage (104); adjusting settings in accordance with DC adapter (105) if a high frequency component exits and adjusting settings in accordance with DC source settings (106) if there is no high frequency component.
