SAFETY MONITOR FOR THE INTEGRITY OF AN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IN A VEHICLE

A safety device comprising: an image data analyzer configured to receive data representing an image for display on a vehicle display; to identify a safety-relevant part of the image based on the data; to determine a value representing the identified safety-relevant part of the image; and a safety checker configured to compare the value with a reference value; wherein the safety device is configured to implement a first mode of operation if the comparison of the value with the reference value is within a comparison range; and to implement a second mode of operation different from the first mode of operation if the comparison of the value with the reference value is outside the comparison range.
