  "textContent": "A parking assistance apparatus (5) control system (15) includes sensors (9, 11, 13) for detecting vehicles (36, 37, Fig. 4 ) parked adjacent to a parking space, and further sensors (12) for determining their forward or rearward facing orientation; e.g., by detecting reflections from their rear reflectors (22, Fig. 4 ). The control system is programmed to determine a target forward or rearward orientation for parking the vehicle (1), based on the orientation of adjacent vehicles; and according to at least one pre-defined preference. The control system will preferably orientate the vehicle to position its driver's door (63, Fig. 7 ) adjacent to an adjacent vehicle's driver side. The control system may also offset the vehicle in the parking space; and may guide the vehicle out of the parking space. Default parking offsets may be programmed in. A method for parking a vehicle is also described.",
