Air Filter Unit for Motor Vehicle
DRIVE
May 8, 2013
An air filter unit (10, Fig. 5a ) is mounted on a motor vehicle engine (E, Fig. 6 ). The air filter unit housing (11) includes an inlet (13), an outlet (14) and an air filtering means (15) therebetween. The housing further accommodates a through-path (12) for a duct (IC1, Fig. 6 ); which may be an air duct, particularly one between an engine turbocharger (T, Fig. 5a ) and an intercooler (IC, Fig. 5a ). This embedded packaging enables a deeper air filter unit to be fitted into the available space in an engine bay. The duct (IC1) may be perpendicular to a passage between the air filter inlet (13) and outlet (14). The air filtering area (A15) may be separated from the through-path side (A12) of the housing (11) by walls (19, 20). The duct (IC1) may be double-skinned within the air filter unit.
