The seats (1a, 1b) have a seat frame mounted with a backrest and a base (2) and comprising a protective shell (4) that is mounted in the backrest. The protective shell comprises lateral protection portions (42) that partially enclose surfaces (3F) of the backrest such that gripping chutes (5, 6) for allowing insertion of fingers of a passenger are formed between surfaces of the backrest and the protection portions. One of the chutes extends between the backrest and the protective shell and exhibit a width of about 25 mm. The protection portions extend parallel to the surfaces of the backrest.
