A battery powered vacuum cleaner (10) comprises a motor (14), a battery pack (16) comprising a plurality of battery cells (18) arranged in a generally horseshoe configuration and wrapped about the motor (14), and a battery door (20) providing access to the battery pack (16) and adapted to permit removal of the battery pack (16) from the vacuum cleaner (10).
