An ECU uses a map or the like prepared in advance to calculate (S 10) a discharge allowable power (Wout). Then, the ECU sets (S20) a VH upper limit value at the first upper limit value (V1). When the running mode is not at a CD mode (that is, at a CS mode), or when the engine is operating (NO at S30), the ECU proceeds to S60. In contrast, when the running mode is at the CD mode and the engine is stopped (YES at S30), the ECU increases (S40) the discharge allowable power (Wout), and modifies (S50) the VH upper limit value to a second upper limit value (V2) that is lower than the first upper limit value (V1).
