The fuel cell system has a reformer (14) for producing a hydrogen-containing gas from a fuel. A fuel cell (12) is arranged at downstream of a burner (16) for thermal conversion of exhaust gases of the fuel cell. A heat exchanger (20) is arranged at upstream of the reformer and is connected at downstream of the burner, for exchanging a heat from waste gases of the burner to the reformer. Another heat exchanger (22) is arranged at downstream of the reformer and is connected to the burner, for exchanging a heat from product gases of the reformer to the burner.
