A lead acid storage battery composed of plates, the lead acid storage battery being obtained by packing an active material into a grid plate (20) provided with a frame section (21) having a quadrangular profile shape, and lateral grid strands (23) and longitudinal grid strands (24) that form a grid (22) inside the frame section (21). The lateral grid strands (23) are composed of thick lateral strands (23b) having a thickness equal to the thickness of the frame section (21), and thin lateral strands (23a) of smaller width and thickness than the thick strands, the longitudinal grid strands (24) being composed of thick longitudinal strands (24b) that have a thickness that is less than thickness of the frame section (21), one end in the thickness direction being arranged in the same plane as one end of the frame section (21) in the thickness direction, and thin longitudinal strands (24a) of smaller width and thickness than the thick longitudinal strands (24b), end faces of one end side of the thin lateral strands (23a) and the thin longitudinal strands (24a) in the thickness direction being positioned further inward in the thickness direction than an end face of one end side of the frame section (21) in the thickness direction, and end faces of the other end side of the thin lateral strands (23a) and the thin longitudinal strands (24a) in the thickness direction being positioned further inward in the thickness direction than an end face of another end side of the frame section (21) in the thickness direction.
