December 26, 2012
An engine bearing compartment is provided and includes an engine casing (12) defining a discharge pathway (13) for a fluid to drain from the engine bearing compartment, a shaft (14) rotatably disposed within the engine casing to define an annulus (15), a housing (16) disposed within the annulus at least partially below an elevation (130) of the discharge pathway, an impeller (20) rotatable with the shaft and including a centrifugal element (30), the impeller being disposed within the annulus at the discharge pathway elevation whereby, due to impeller rotation, the centrifugal element expels the fluid through the discharge pathway from the annulus above the discharge pathway elevation, and a circuit (40) by which fluid expelled through the discharge pathway (13) is communicated to an interior (160) of the housing (16).
