A battery module, comprising a plurality of battery cells arranged consecutively in a first direction; and a first barrier; wherein the first barrier comprises a first intermediate part situated between a first said battery cell and a second said battery cell, and a first flange part comprising a first flange portion and a second flange portion; the first flange portion extends over a surface portion of the first battery cell and comprises a first baffle part in contact with the said surface portion of the first battery cell; and the second flange portion extends over a surface portion of the second battery cell and comprises a second baffle part in contact with the said surface portion of the second battery cell.
