An insert removal device (20) for a gas tourbine stationary blade, which removes weld metal which surrounds an insert collar so as to connect the insert collar protruding outwardly from the outer peripheral surfaces of inserts to a stationary blade outside shroud non-gas path surface by arc-discharge which is repeated in a short period between an electrode (21) and the gas turbine stationary blade, wherein the bottom surface (24) of the electrode (21) has the same planar view shape as the planar view shape of the weld metal.
