An apparatus for fitting and removing a tyre to and from a corresponding rim of a wheel for a vehicle, includes: a wheel-holder unit rotating about a first axis which is vertically oriented, a column, having a vertical guide, a carriage, coupled to the vertical guide to slide vertically, an arm connected to the carriage; the apparatus also includes an operating head, pivotally connected to the arm, to rotate around a second axis, transversal to the first axis, and provided with a plurality of tools; each tool is operatively inserted between a bead of the tyre and an annular edge of the rim in a working position; the tools are alternatively selectable by rotating the operating head in respective operating configurations in which the tools are oriented towards the wheel to be positioned in the working position; the apparatus includes an illuminator, configured to generate a laser beam; the illuminator is connected to the arm or to the operating head so that the laser beam is oriented in a downward direction, for illuminating a spot of the wheel mounted on the wheel holder unit.
