A method includes applying a first proportional gain constant (K) and a first integral gain constant (K) to a difference based on a reference voltage and an output voltage of an inverter to generate a virtual current signal for an inner current loop, where Kis associated with a resistive component of an emulated impedance, and where Kis associated with an inductive component of the emulated impedance. The method also includes controlling the output voltage of the inverter based on the virtual current signal.
