The lamp (100) has a controllable power module formed of pulse width modulation module (112) and a semiconductor type power switch (113) supplying current to the lamp. A control module (120) adjusts intensity of light generated by LEDs and includes an image sensor to generate images of an area illuminated by the lamp. A ROM processes the image so as to detect presence of eye within presumed dangerous area. The control module generates a control signal to reduce light intensity generated by the LEDs during the detection of human face and eye within the dangerous area. The lamp is connected to a computer or micro-computer by a Universal serial bus (USB)interface. An independent claim is also included for a method for limiting light intensity generated by a lamp.
