A vehicle control apparatus comprises an engine (10); a manual transmission (30); a motor/generator (20); and a shift operation apparatus (81) that includes shift positions for every shift stages in order to select the shift stage by the manual transmission (30) upon the travel in a driving mode using the output from the engine (10), and a driving mode selecting position of the motor/generator (20) for selecting a driving mode in which the vehicle travels only with the output from the motor/generator (20), and that operates the manual transmission (30) according to the shift position selected by a driver or the driving mode selecting position, wherein when it is estimated that the changeover from the driving mode using only the output from the motor/generator (20) to the driving mode using the output from the engine (10) is performed, the motor/generator (20) is driven for power driving to generate driving force, when an accelerator is turned off.
