Parking assistance system and method

A vehicle parking assistance system comprises an image processing unit which combines multiple images which comprise views in different directions around the vehicle to form a bird's eye view. An image representing the vehicle is superimposed into the bird's eye view. The position of the image representing the vehicle on the display and the displayed view of the vehicle's surroundings is controlled in response to user commands and/or vehicle sensor data.
