The method involves using the mounting clip (100) comprising a detent portion (106) and a head portion (104), for mounting the component from a preassembly position into a final assembly position. A release element (112) is provided such that the mounting clip is shifted from a non-readable position of machine-readable code (114) into the code readable position, if the head portion is transported into the final assembly position. A reading element is arranged at a predetermined reading position, for reading the machine-readable code. An independent claim is included for mounting clip.
