The internal combustion engine has four cylinders (2) provided in a crank case (1). A crankshaft (5) is supported over main and auxiliary bearings (6-8) in the crank case (1), such that main bearings (6,8) are provided outside the outer cranks (5a,5d) of the crankshaft and auxiliary bearing (7) is provided between two internal cranks (5b,5c) of the crankshaft. The main bearings are in the form of roller bearings, and auxiliary bearing is in the form of slide bearing.
