To provide a process for producing a positive electrode material for a secondary cell, whereby it is possible to easily produce a positive electrode material comprising an olivine-type phosphate composite compound and having electrical conductivity and its reliability improved. [0002] A molten material comprising, based on oxides (unit: mol%), from 5 to 40% of AO (A is at least one member selected from the group consisting of Li and Na), from 40 to 70% of MO (M is at least one member selected from the group consisting of Fe, Mn, Co and Ni) and from 15 to 40% of POis cooled to obtain a solidified material. The solidified material and at least one member selected from the group consisting of an organic compound and a carbon powder is mixed and pulverized, followed by heating of the pulverized material to precipitate crystal containing olivine-type AMPOas well as to bind at least one member selected from the group consisting of the organic compound, the carbon powder and a reaction product thereof to the surface of the crystal. The melting step and the heating step are carried out under an inert atmosphere or a reduced atmosphere.
