Waste gas heater device

The device (1) has inlet- and outlet regions connected with an exhaust gas cooling channel (3) that is formed in an inner housing (7). A coolant channel (4) is formed between the inner housing and an outer housing (6), and heat conductive ribs (10) extend from cooling channel surfaces (11, 12) into the exhaust gas cooling channel. The ribs are provided with reduced length such that a free region (14) extending in a longitudinal direction of the device is formed. A pipe section (15) is provided as a bypass channel (5) in the free region and made of stainless steel.
