Tire comprising an inflation device and method of manufacturing such a tire

A tire having a tire cavity (30) between first and second sidewalls that extend respectively from a pair of beads (22) to a tire tread region and an air passageway body (46) extending between an outward facing tire surface and the tire cavity (30) is disclosed. The air passageway body (46) has an enclosed air passageway extending between a hollow body outlet end (54) facing the tire cavity (30) and a hollow body inlet end (52) facing outward from the outward facing tire surface. At least one tapping device (74,92) is affixed over at least one of the ends (52, 54) of the air passageway body (46), the at least one tapping device (74,92) having a vent opening and a protrusion member (88,100) penetrating through a wall of the air passageway body (46). Also, a method of manufacturing such a tire is disclosed.
