The invention concerns a steering system (20) which comprises a first gear pair that controls the turning of a non-driving wheel (18). The first gear pair includes a non-circular drive gear (52) that engages a non-circular driven gear (70). The steering system may for example provide substantially true Ackerman steering of a vehicle.
