Vehicle navigation system

A vehicle navigation system comprising a database storing map data which comprises links corresponding to road segments is provided. The navigation system comprises a processing unit adapted to estimate an energy consumption of a vehicle for a link taking into consideration attributes retrieved from the database for the link. Furthermore, methods of estimating an energy consumption of a vehicle for a link of a route and of generating a database comprising map data with links associated with attributes are provided.
