The apparatus i.e. lawn mower (1) has a chassis (2), a landing gear (36), a cutting tool (4) i.e. rotary cutter bar (5) with a drive (8), and a cutting tool height adjustment unit (13) for adjusting the height of the cutter bar relative to the chassis. The cutting tool height adjustment unit includes a manual positioning device (14) with a lifting rod (18) having an actuating element (19), and a detent (20) connected with the drive for height fixation of the cutter bar. The lifting rod is formed with a handle along a rotational axis (6) of the cutter bar.
