The information providing device comprises a route acquisition unit (31a) adapted to acquire a reference travel route on the basis of information transmitted from the terminal device, a route finding unit (31b) adapted to find a fuel-saving travel route, a fuel cost calculating unit (31c) adapted to calculate a difference in cost of fuel between the reference travel route and the fuel-saving travel route, a communication cost calculating unit (31d) adapted to calculate a communication cost for communicating first information about the fuel-saving travel route to the terminal device, and a control unit (31 e) adapted to execute control for transmitting predetermined information to the terminal device on the basis of a result of comparison between the difference in cost of fuel and the communication cost.
