The device has a carrier (14) comprising a B-side in which a recess (16) is formed. A planar lighting unit is flush-mounted in the recess and has a connection cable guided through a C-side of the carrier so that a continuously planar surface of the carrier with the lighting unit is provided on the B-side. A covering layer forms an A-side of the device and covers the lighting unit and a part of the planar surface on the B-side. The covering layer is permeable for light sent by the lighting unit. The lighting unit has a punctiform light source formed as a surface mounted device (SMD) LED. The lighting unit comprises a punctiform light source formed as a surface mounted device (SMD) LED. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a lining device.
