The method involves determining an initial search field including a predetermined location on the basis of cartographic data searching point of interest in the search field. The search field is iteratively enlarged for searching the point of interest in the enlarged search field until a predetermined search time is elapsed or the number of found point of interest attains the predetermined number of point of interest hits. The point of interest is divided into classes, where the point of interest of predetermined point of interest classes is searched. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program product having program code for performing a method for determining point of interest in a vicinity of a predetermined location with known coordinates (2) a device for determining point of interest in a vicinity of a predetermined location with known coordinates, comprising a data memory.
