A battery module (101) includes a plurality of rechargeable batteries (120) and a housing (110) configured to receive the rechargeable batteries, wherein the housing has a vent opening (114a); and a valve configured to close the vent opening (114a), wherein the valve includes a porous film (130) with pores (131) having a diameter larger than that of gas molecules and smaller than that of water particles.
