Hub for wheel of human powered vehicle
DRIVE
January 18, 2012
A hub (10) for a human powered vehicle includes a rotation axis, a hub body (11) formed generally symmetrically about the rotation axis, the hub body having a radially-outward-facing surface (116) that includes a plurality of surface features (28) for improving the aerodynamic efficiency of the hub as it passes through a fluid, and a wheel assembly attachment member (108) formed along a circumference of the hub body, the wheel assembly attachment member (108) being structured for attachment to one of a plurality of spokes (112) and the center of a disc wheel. The surface features (28) may include a series of depressions (28) or a series of projections, and such features may have a dimple shape (28) that can be formed in a variety of shapes including those with a cylindrical wall (37) and a planar bottom (36) or a hemispherical bottom (39). Alternately, such surface features may have a hemispherical shape (32).
