System for monitoring the status of a battery

The system (1) has a voltage measuring unit and a current measuring unit measuring voltage and current at terminals of a battery (8). A calculating unit (2) calculates difference between maximum and minimum voltages measured on the terminals. A comparator (3) compares the difference with a threshold value. Error reporting units (3a-3c) report an error if the difference is greater than or equal to the threshold value, where one of the error reporting units is disabled if absolute value of the measured current overlook a range of current threshold values specific to the threshold value.
