Ionic liquid based electrolytes containing sulfide/polysulfide redox couple and uses thereof

The present invention relates to inexpensive ionic liquid electrolytes containing sulphide/polysulfide anion and an organic cation serving as a redox electrolyte in electrochemical and/or optoelectronic devices, in particular dye or inorganic semiconductor (thin layer or quantum dot) sensitized solar cells. These ionic liquids have moderate viscosity and can be used without a solvent.
