The device (10) has a direct current (DC) converter (16) for converting supply voltage (18) into charging-DC voltage (20), and a contacting device for contacting a plug connection-current terminal of an electric vehicle (12). A differential current monitoring device (26) detects current difference in the contacting device and/or vehicle during a charging process of an energy accumulator (14). The monitoring device detects DC difference, and has a switching element (28) causing disconnection of the process during exceedance of a preset DC switching difference over a preset switching time.
