A disclosed positive electrode is a positive electrode for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery. The positive electrode includes a positive electrode current collector and a positive electrode mixture layer disposed on the positive electrode current collector. The positive electrode mixture layer contains active material particles having an average particle diameter less than 5 μm, a conductive material, a dispersant, and a binder. The active material particles include composite oxide particles and a surface modification layer formed on surfaces of the composite oxide particles and containing a boron compound. The composite oxide particles are particles of a lithium transition metal composite oxide. The conductive material includes a carbon material. The dispersant includes nitrile group-containing rubber. The binder includes a fluorine-containing polymer.
