A composition for coating a negative electrode dam is in surface contact with an end of the negative electrode active material layer and includes a carbon-based material, a cellulose-based compound, a rubber-based binder, and inorganic particles. The composition for coating a negative electrode dam has excellent surface tension and adhesion, thereby inhibiting the occurrence of a fat-edge at the negative electrode, and the dam coating layer formed from the composition for coating a negative electrode dam has the effect of reducing the sliding length of the negative electrode active material layer. A lithium secondary battery including the same is also provided.
