A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery according to the present invention has a positive electrode comprising a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode comprising a negative electrode active material and a non-aqueous electrolyte, wherein a mixture of at least one metal selected from zinc and cadmium having an average particle diameter in a range of from 0.25 µm to 100 µm and carbon is used as the negative electrode active material.
