This invention concerns a lithium rechargeable electrochemical cell comprising cathodic and anodic lithium insertion material with p-type and n-type redox active compounds, said electrochemical cell containing said cathodic lithium insertion material and said p-type redox active compounds and containing said anodic lithium insertion material and said n- type redox active compounds and wherein the said p-type and n- type redox active compounds are polymer compounds, or are attached to single-walled carbon nanotubes.
