A wheel assembly incorporating a protector shield for the tire sidewall

The present invention relates to a wheel assembly for a motor vehicle incorporating at least one protector shield for a tire sidewall. This wheel assembly (301) comprises a wheel rim (302), a tire (305) having sidewalls (306 and 307) and beads mounted respectively against axially inner and outer flanges (303 and 304) of said rim, and at least one protector shield (310) for one of said sidewalls which is mounted on said rim and which is in a form of a curved ring. According to the invention, said at least one shield is fixed to said outer flange (304) axially outside the latter, advantageously by a plurality of circumferentially spaced rim bolts (331).
