Lithium metal phosphates, their production and use as electrode materials

Production of a compound of formula LiMPO 4 (where M is a metal of the first transition series) comprises producing a precursor mixture containing at least one Li +> source, at least one M +> source and at least one PO 4 3-> source to obtain a precipitate and produce a precursor suspension, treating the precursor mixture and/or precursor suspension by dispersing or grinding until the D90 value of the particles in the precursor suspension is less than 50 mu m, and extracting the LiMPO 4 from the suspension, preferably under hydrothermal conditions.
