An epicyclic gear assembly (36) of a gas turbine engine (10) comprises a journal bearing, the journal bearing (44) includes a central body (55) having first passageway (56) and a filter module (58). The central body (55) extends axially and is adapted to be supported at each outer end. The first passageway (56) extends generally axially through a portion of the central body (55). The filter module (58) is disposed in the first passageway (56) and is configured to trap debris from a lubricant fluid flowing therethrough. In one embodiment, the filter module (58) is adapted to be inserted and removed from the first passageway (56) as a single unit, thereby allowing the filter module (58) to be connected and disconnected from fluid communication with a lubricant manifold (46) positioned adjacent the journal bearing (44).
