Safety device for a vehicle interior

The protection device is provided with a flexible sheet material movably mounted between a compact resting position and a partially moved functional position. The sheet material is provided with a flat and dimensionally stable contour part at the front end face in pull-out direction. The contour part stretches through complete breadth of the sheet material. A control device (9) is attached to a moving end region of the contour part (7) just before reaching the moved end position.
