An electrolyte for a lithium battery including a positive electrode having a nickel-cobalt-manganese based active material, the electrolyte including a nonaqueous organic solvent and a lithium salt, the nonaqueous organic solvent including ethylene carbonate and dimethyl carbonate; a lithium battery including the electrolyte; and a method of operating the lithium battery.
