"textContent": "The invention is directed to a system for balancing a series connection of energy storage devices comprising an intermediate storage element (b) and a switching means (c) for coupling a pair of non-adjacent sections (d) of one or a number of adjacent energy storage devices of a series connection of energy storage devices, said sections each having a more positive terminal (A) at one end and a more negative terminal (B) at its other end, wherein said switching means switches sequentially between coupling terminals (A) to each other via said intermediate storage element and coupling terminals (B) to each other via said intermediate storage element. Further, the invention is directed to an assembly comprising a series connection of energy storage devices and such balancing system. Additionally, the invention is directed to the relative method for balancing a series connection of energy storage devices. The invention is also directed to the use of the above system or method for balancing a series connection of electric double-layer capacitors, lithium capacitors, electrochemical battery devices and battery packs, and lithium battery devices like lithium-polymer and lithium-ion battery devices.",
