A rear view mirror assembly with a mirror head and a mirror base at least two mirror housing parts covering the elements of the rear view mirror assembly, wherein the mirror head is pivotably mounted to the mirror base with an axis, whereby at least one part of the mirror housing parts that cover the rear view mirror assembly has a clearance (12) so that at least two parts can undercut each others in case of rear view mirror folding out of working position in folded position.
