By the invention a transport system including a guideway and one or more wheeled vehicles is provided, the guideway having a number of position indicating elements defining a drive lane for the one or more vehicles, each of the one or more vehicles being steerable by a steering motor connected to one pair of wheels and further having a positioning detector cooperating with the position indicating elements for determining a first distance, a frontal distance detector for determining a second distance to a further vehicle on the guideway, a drive motor system, a brake system and a CPU communicating with the positioning detector and the steering motor for maintaining a lateral positioning, and further communicating with the distance detector, drive motor system and brake system for maintaining a distance to the further vehicle identical to or exceeding the second distance.
