Device for cooling charged gas and method of operating same
DRIVE

The device (100) has a phase exchange medium, whose phase exchange enthalpy is utilized for heat transmission from a charged air mass stream (108) to the phase exchange medium in a temporal continuous manner, when the temperature of the charged air stream over-exceeds pre-determined maximum temperature. A heat exchanger (110) i.e. charged air-cooling air-heat exchanger, is utilized for transmission of heat from charged air stream to heat transmitting fluid i.e. cooling air mass stream (114). The phase exchange medium is provided in heat reservoirs (116, 118) and a heat pipe. An independent claim is also included for a method for cooling charged air for the charged internal combustion engine of the motor vehicle.
