Bearing unit comprising a sheet metal element

A bearing unit comprises a rolling element bearing (1) with at least two rings (2,3) which are each provided with at least one raceway and at least one set of rolling elements (4,5) which are in contact with the raceways, as well as at least one tubular sheet metal element (14) connected to one of said rings (4,5). The sheet metal element (14) at least partly has a mounting part (16,24) with non-circular cross section, said mounting part (16,24) being mounted to a counter part with a correspondingly non-circular cross section of said ring (4,5) or connected to said ring (4,5).
