An electrochemical element comprising an alkaline electrolyte and an anode containing a zinc powder, with no mercury or cadmium having been added during its production and its mercury content being less than 0.1 ppm and its cadmium content being less that 5 ppm, wherein the electrochemical element has a value in a specific expansion test which is higher than 25%, and a gas value of less than 2 ml, after discharge and after 7 days' storage at 60 °C under specific discharge conditions, for a battery with LR6 format.
