The method involves defining prior paths in terms of pairs of geographical segments. A pair of current geographical segment, constituted of a current segment and a subsequent segment, is determined during a current path. The current segment pair is compared with the segment pairs of the prior paths. The current pair is recorded as a pair of segments of a new prior path or the prior paths, if the comparison is negative or positive. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a system for identifying a path covered by a vehicle (B) a utilization of the vehicle path identification method to transmit information, relative to the path, to vehicle units.
